Think.Zen.

I think my squash game has improved a lot ever since the Prof started coaching me.
He has made me more zen on the court. I don't break racquets as often as i used to.

Of all the advice he gave me, i think the best one was not to try and play a winner with every shot.
He said, 'Think'. And that is easily the best advice i have got.
These days i return to stay in the point and try to play a winner only i have a sufficient court advantage.
And he said, do not force a point. Enjoy it. Think.Zen.

Joy in the Evening

Happiness can be found in many places.
Talking to a friend, hangout, reading a good book, studying something new, watching Breaking Bad etc.
BUT, the joy of playing that perfect squash shot is something else, especially while playing against Arjun.
Cross court drop from a deep defensive position..ahh
And the the two wall nick from, again from a defensive position. Ahh again.

The Bed

Some days you want to get back home and sleep.
Rainy Snowy wet end to a day that cannot end sooner.
Seems Appropriate.

Manu lost, thank goodness for little joys.

Wodehouse Woes

I have only three more Wodehouse short stories left. :(
What will i do after i finish the reading the last one?

"It has been well said that this is the age of the specialist. Everybody, if they wish to leave the world a better and happier place for their stay in it, should endeavour to adopt some speciality and make it their own. Chapple's speciality was being late for breakfast."
-The politeness of Princes

I've read this line 20 times, and i still keep laughing every time i read it.

Art Appreciation

Just had a very interesting conversation with Rajagopal over coffee at Sitwells.

How do you learn to appreciate some art form?

His idea was that, if you keep seeing/hearing an art form, you will eventually like it.
Drilling down, He supported this view with my liking for certain ragas.
I started liking Hamir Kalyani and Desh only after forcing myself to listen to it for an extended period of time.
But then now, i love these two ragas.
So by his logic, if i listen to thodi for long enough, i would learn to appreciate the raga.
Point well made. And i will start listening to thodi.

Yes yes, this is an extremely naive discussion on something complex.
But, this does beg the question. Would everyone, given time and effort, start appreciating every art form?

Past Paradox

"Oh! if you cherish life, never disturb the burial place of old letters!"
Besides a lot of interesting bits in this story, this particular line stood.
I used to collect anything related to my days in school. School Anniversary brochures, Project
Brochures, Photos, Badges, letters, Year Books etc etc etc. I loved my school.  And i would make a
write up about each of the things i collected, the people who were involved and the people i met etc etc.

But then i stopped doing this a few years ago and decided to never open the file.
Which is the same reason why i hate taking photos.

The past makes you sad, it reminds you about happier times.

Not bad, Maupassant and I had similar views. No, wait that isn't a good thing, is it?
